Pricing
Metal and Dust prices are subject to change without notice to align with the fluctuating price of gold. Our prices need to be reviewed and updated periodically to ensure we are maintaining high quality product and sustainability standards.
Order Timeframe & Delays
The timeframe provided for completion of your order is an estimate only and may vary. External delays may occur (such as when in transit to and from casting) which are out of our control. You will always be notified by email of any unexpected delays to your order. Allowing more than adequate time for design and production is recommended for orders with a specific deadline.
Customers Own Diamonds or Gemstones
Suitability of setting a customers own diamonds or gemstones is assessed on a case by case basis. Generally, we will only work with high quality cut round Diamonds as they are durable and there is less risk of damage. We do not work with customer own diamonds that are smaller than 2mm in size. Some stones are cut poorly and as such we may decide against re-purposing for this reason. While absolute care is taken when removing and re-purposing customer diamonds or gemstones, Metal and Dust is not liable for any damages that may occur during production. The customer will be responsible for the purchase of replacement diamonds or gemstones in this case.
Process, Wax & Casting
Metal and Dust pieces are primarily made with the lost wax casting technique, which means that each made to order piece is unique and may have minor differences. When casting precious metals at high temperatures, very minor surface imperfections can sometimes be present on a finished piece. This is not a fault nor does it affect the integrity of a jewellery piece.
Recycling
Metal and Dust recycling program invites customers to send in any old or unworn jewellery piece in exchange for a store credit to the value of that particular metal. Larger stones of value can be removed and returned to the customer prior to recycling. Smaller accent stones (other than diamonds) are not normally worth salvaging and are discarded during recycling.
Once the customer jewellery is received by Metal and Dust, the customer is provided with an accurate credit value based on the weights of jewellery. The customer will be contacted via email for approval and acceptance of this amount. A Metal and Dust store credit is issued via email at the time of customer approval. The customer's old jewellery is then sent to the metal refinery at which point we are unable to recover the jewellery in case of change of mind.
Casting with Customer Provided Gold
While it is generally possible to cast with a customers own gold, this method can have it's complications. Sometimes original jewellery pieces with unknown origins can be 'contaminated' or contain unknown alloys and these impurities may affect the casting result. If impurities are found to be present in the customer provided metal at the time of casting, a suitable solution will be discussed. This may mean that the customers own gold will instead be recycled in exchange for a credit toward new gold in the finished piece. Our priority is always delivering a finished piece to a high standard.
