Diamonds in April

Stone: Diamond

Birthstone: Month of April

Diamonds truly stand alone in the realm of gemstones, boasting a captivating allure that's unmatched by any other. Found naturally in the most remote corners of the Earth, the mere existence of these exquisite gems is nothing short of miraculous. Whether your preference is a mined or lab grown diamond, here are the 4C’s to consider: cut, colour, clarity, carat.

Cut: Arguably the most crucial of the C’s. Every diamond undergoes meticulous faceting to enhance the gemstone's allure. A superior cut grade signifies exceptional brightness, fire (displaying rainbow hues), and scintillation (sparkling brilliance).

Diamond cuts are categorized into five tiers: Excellent, very good, good, fair, and poor.

Colour: A diamond’s colour is assessed based on its absence of colour. The top tier is labelled ‘D’ and extends through to ‘Z,’ transitioning into light yellow hues. Colours within the D-G range are esteemed for their rarity and exceptional quality. Moving down the scale, H-I grades are considered near colourless, while J-Z encompasses a variety of hues, including subtle tints like grey, champagne, and cognac.

Clarity: Due to the intense heat and pressure during their formation, diamonds inevitably harbor imperfections. The pinnacle of clarity, characterized by its rarity, is the internally flawless (IF) grade. Since numerous inclusions remain invisible to the unaided eye, diamonds undergo grading under 10x magnification to assess their quality.

Carat: Diamond weight is measured in carats, one carat equals 200 milligrams in weight. All C’s combined means no two stones are the same.
